In ancient lore, threads symbolized the universal connecting element and served as a metaphor for life itself. People are interwoven by countless threads, forming a cohesive and magnificent tapestry, all bound by a shared enigmatic purpose. “The Chrysalis Phase” artfully evokes the notion of art’s potential to mend and unite our disassembling world, providing a profound reflection on the human condition and guiding individuals towards a liberating sense of freedom.

Within this captivating installation, the artistry of embroidery mirrors delicate pencil strokes, reminiscent of a draft or preliminary study. Here, the focal themes revolve around border states and transformation, epitomizing the temporality of ceaseless metamorphosis. The work embodies a state of constant flux, akin to the metamorphic journey of a chrysalis, as it transitions into something magnificent.

Born in Soviet Kemerovo in Siberia, an area known for its history of receiving forced settlers and prisoners, Tanya Akmetgalieva draws profound inspiration from her birthplace. This region, renowned for its mines and miners, holds a special place in the artist’s heart, akin to a gloomy and harsh Eden she had to depart to truly embrace her own existence fully.
