Tanya Akhmetgalieva
Tanya Akhmetgalieva is a visual artist, born in Western Siberia, in Kemerovo in 1983. After graduating from Saint-Petersburg Stieglitz State Academy of Art and Design, she also studied new media at the Institute Pro Arte (St. Peterburg).
She is working in digital and video art, as well as painting, graphics, and objects. Tanya Akhmetgalieva’s works transcend the boundaries of reality, weaving a mesmerizing tapestry of illusions and escapism. In her captivating creations, Akhmetgalieva delves into the human psyche, exploring the allure of building multiple realities and the enigmatic world of fantasies. Distortion and mutation, where dreams and confusion intermingle are leaving the audience with a sense of uncertainty and disorientation. Akhmetgalieva's quest for light is juxtaposed with blinding brilliance. The artist embraces the concept of failure and shift, challenging conventions through inversions of meanings. Also, her art explores the notion of poison, intoxication, and a hypnotic effect. Within the madness and absurdity of life, she unravels secrets and asks riddles. Fragmentation and the inability to concentrate serve as metaphors for the nature of existence.
Her works could have been seen in London (Calvert 22 Foundation), Helsinki (KIASMA, Galerie Forsblom), Espoo (EMMA), Solothurn (Haus der Kunst St. Josef), Basel (Lotsremark) or Venice (Parallel program of 57th La Biennale Di Venezia).
